Expectations of Worship Team Members
Vineyard Church of Guilford
1. Remember that there is lots of GRACE surrounding all these expectations. Even the Worship Team Coordinators themselves have difficulty fulfilling all these, so imagine how much grace we will have for each of you.
The first and foremost expectation is that each and every team member have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Serve in one of the following capacities on Sunday mornings
a. Lead worship
b. Play an instrument
c. Sing back up
d. Set up equipment
e. Run the soundboard
f. Run EasyWorship software for song lyrics
g. Organize and/or administrate Worship Team activities
3. Arrive 8:00 a.m. on Sundays when you’re on the schedule.
4. Help set up all equipment and instruments (please do not pick up your own instrument to play it until all equipment is set up and everyone else’s instruments are ready to go). If you don’t know what to do, become a student and follow somebody around who knows what they’re doing and ask them why they’re doing it or what you can do to help.
5. Help tear down until trailer is packed and ready to lock up. If people are coming up to talk to you, be polite and speak with them, or, even better, enlist their help (e.g., “Hey, you wanna grab the other end of this keyboard and help me carry this out to the trailer while we talk?”) If you don’t know what to do:
a. Unplug and coil patch cords; XLR patch cords (the ones with three prongs) need to have button pressed before they will come out.
b. Fold up microphone stands and carry out to trailer.
c. Put microphones and coiled patch cords in microphone case.
d. Unplug and coil long patch cords leading to house speakers and put the short one in black bag and the long one into the sound board box.
e. Pack up laptop computer and LCD projector be sure the projector power light has stopped flashing before unplugging and put the projector in John’s car. Give the laptop to the next week's AV tech.
f. Help drummer carry drums out to car.
g. Carry stuff out to trailer and help load.
h. Get the sign from the front of the Community Center, and put it in the trailer.
i. Gather up music stands from hallway and sanctuary and take them out to the trailer.
7. Host the party! Remember that simply by virtue of being up front and visible to the congregation during services, you are a leader in the church. This means that your behavior toward visitors, newcomers, and all members of the congregation speaks much more loudly than your average church goer. Please make efforts to meet new people, remember names, and try to make everyone feel welcome and included in what’s going on.
8. Get a login to the CCLI SongSelect website. Develop your own Worship Team binder, put your name on it, be prepared for worship, and bring it and a sharpened pencil on Sundays when you’re playing and to all Worship Team meetings.
9. Be prepared to pray in the sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.
10. Instrumentalists play upbeat “atmosphere music” starting at 10:20 a.m.
11. Being sensitive to the mood, play upbeat, instrumental music at the end of the service one beat after the congregation says, “Thanks be to God!”
12. Practice your instrument (including voices) regularly.
13. Make it your business to know the music each week.
14. Read e-mails and/or correspondence in their entirety from your lovely Worship Team Coordinators as they strive to help you be prepared for your work as a Worship Team Member.
